On March 11th this year, an event inviting all Lithuanians to participate in the centennial Song Festival called "Vardan tos" was in Pasvalys. This events takes place in all the districts of the country, but the first part started in Pasvalys. March 11th commemoration events in Pasvalys began with the mass for independence of Lithuania. Afterwards, there were already a crowd of people gathered in Vytautas the Great Square, who, along with Pasvalys district amateur folk singer groups, had fun in singing Lithuanian folk songs.
The gathered people had the opportunity to mark their friends, relatives, family members and acquaintances on the World map: on a huge inflatable balloon you could have put a sticker were a person you know is living. People are invited to sign up for this gesture and then on July 6th to sing the national anthem. This project was created not only for July 6th, its purpose is to create Lithuania, which is not geography, but community, thought, feeling, human connection. This project invites you to communicate, share thoughts and events, and bring people to the community regardless of the borders of the countries.
While listening to songs, dancing and singing, people gathered in Pasvalys centre. Vladas Braziūnas, honorary citizen of the Pasvalys district, journalist Edita Mildažytė congratulated the audience and embraced the March 11th event. Vladas Braziūnas congratulated the fellow citizens, invited everyone to join the Song Festival and shared his memories of life in Pasvalys. Mayor of Pasvalys District Municipality Gintautas Gegužinskas kindly congratulated the people of our country on the celebration, wished everyone to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Lithuania happily and cheerfully, to participate and unite not only for the celebration of this century, but also to meet happily the coming century.
While the Pasvalys mixed choir "Canticum novum" and the choir "Ave vita", led by Kastytis Baris, with all the people, sang the songs of the coming Song Festival, the Pasvalys district amateur folk singer groups invited everyone to dance and have fun.
After the event Pasvalys Culture Centre hosted the Traditional Pasvalys Region "Diamond of the year" people awards.
